Perfume Genius Releases His 6th Studio Album, 'Ugly Season'
Perfume Genius has released his important new album, Ugly Season, via Matador records.
Already given BNM from Pitchfork, 7.4/10 from Northern Transmissions, and 7/10 from Exclaim, the release is “some of the most dynamic music of Hadreas’ career” – Exclaim.
The ten songs that make up Ugly Season began as an accompaniment to Perfume Genius (Mike Hadreas) and choreographer Kate Wallich’s dance piece, The Sun Still Burns Here, which was commissioned by the Seattle Theatre Group and Mass MoCA and performed via residencies in Seattle, Minneapolis, New York City, and Boston throughout 2019. Hadreas developed all new music for the work, which was then refined and expanded upon separately in the studio with long-time partner Alan Wyffels and producer Blake Mills.
Accompanying the record is a stunning and surreal 30-minute short film from artist and director Jacolby Satterwhite, expanding on the aforementioned dance piece.
Bartees Strange Releases Sophomore Record 'Farm To Table'
At last, Bartees Strange has released his sophomore (and 4AD debut) record, ‘Farm To Table’ ~ Out today on all digital platforms, with physicals following on Oct 7th. Check out one of our favourite album cuts below:
“Akin to Strange’s heroes The National, Bartees has managed to strike that difficult chord of creating an album that’s sonically hard to define, as it skips from anthemic moments to pockets of introspection and poppy flirtations with ease. It doesn’t look like that meteoric rise is anywhere close to its apex does it?” – From the 8/10 Northern Transmission review, read HERE.
This summer Bartees is taking ‘Farm to Table’ to Canada in support of Metric on their east coast leg. Find all ticket info HERE
